Welcome to
Celebrating
Hanukkah
![]()
Hanukkah has a rich history and part of our celebration is reading the miraculous events that took place between the last book of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the first book of the New Testament.
…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of host.
Zechariah 4: 6
We do all the fun things like play dreidels, light the menorah, eat latkes… but we do so much more. We reflect on the wonders and miracles of our God.
During the Feast of Dedication while all Jerusalem was aglow with the lights of the Hanukkah lamps, Y’shua spoke from the Temple courts:
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8: 12
Have you heard the name Jehovah-Shammah? It is one of the names of God and means He who will never leave or forsake, will always be there. The Lord, who is my helper.
The Hanukkah menorah is different from other menorahs in that it has a place for 9 candles. When the Jewish people retook the temple and were offering up prayers of dedication; only enough oil was found to keep the lights burning for one day. Miraculously, the lights burned for eight days, long enough for more oil to be found. Eight of the places represent these eight days. The ninth is the shammas, or servant candle. It is lit first each night and used to light the others.
Isn’t it the same with us? It is Jesus who gives light to us. It is He, who brings light into the once darkness of our hearts! And we do not have enough oil on our own to be His light in a dark world, but Jesus provides for us. He is the shammas, the servant candle.
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Acts 26: 18
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined… For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9: 2-6
"Nes gadol haya sham, a great miracle happened there." The miracle of God's preserving power. God keeps His promises. He preserves His people. He sustains. What hope and what a reason for celebration!
As each of the Biblical Feast speak and point to Y'shua Ha Mashiach, Messiah Jesus, Hanukkah is no different.
We hope for you this season Shalom uv'rachah b' Y'shua Ha Mashiach,
Peace and blessings in Messiah Jesus!
