My Time With God
The child whispered,
"God, speak to me." A meadowlark sang. But the child did
not hear.
So the child yelled, "God, speak to me!" And the thunder rolled
across the sky. But the child did not listen.
The child looked around and said, "God, let me see You." And a
star shone brightly. But the child did not notice.
And the child shouted, "God, show me a miracle!" And a life was
born. But the child did not know.
So the child cried out in despair, "God, touch me and let me know You here!"
So, God reached down and touched the child. But the child brushed the
butterfly away. And walked away unknowingly.

If we have spent endless hours showering our love on our children, but forgot
to teach them of a greater love, we have cheated them. If they leave our
homes driven with desire to serve God and work for the Kingdom, but never
learned about that still quiet voice, they are useless. There is nothing
as important to teach our children than teaching them to know, see, hear, feel,
and desire God. There is so much work for the Kingdom to be done,
but none so important as spending time with our Father.
As important as it is for us to have our time with God each day, it is just as
important to lead our children in doing the same. What they start out
doing out of their love and respect for us, will some day be done out of their
love and respect for the Father. We have included a downloadable guide
that helped us help our children begin their special time with God. It is
an idea inspired by and adapted from something we heard at a workshop by Barb Shelton. Feel free to
adapt the file in anyway that makes it workable for you and your family.
This acted as a wonderful jumpstart for us, as our children found their own
prayer closets. If you have spent time teaching your children to follow
Jesus example, then Matthew 14: 23, Mark 1: 35, Luke 6: 12, Luke 9: 18 and Luke
11: 1 are just some examples you can use to show them how Jesus placed a great
importance on time spent with His Father.
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40: 41
